I think it's important to remember that small children don't necessarily understand children's programming the way that adults do.
Obviously I don't remember this myself, but when I was a small child (2-3 years old, perhaps) I apparently became scared and started crying after watching an episode where Scooby-Doo at some point ended up in a washing machine.“High levels of violence in cartoons such as Scooby-Doo can make children more aggressive, researchers claimed yesterday.

That is sooo cute. Apparently I was quite frightened by a large duck (when I was that age).
