I turned off television news in the aftermath of 9/11, either completely off or to another channel but all I found was froth. I also didn't watch much television during the 1997 General Election campaign as I only had the five terrestial channels at the time and the newest one didn't have much of a ...

I agree. Going out to a live event demands some audience participation and you become an active participant more so in the theatre or concert hall more so than if you stay at home and watch television. Pantomines used to be well known for this, now comedy shows demand the audience heckle, banter and...

I haven't got rid of my television yet as I'm still in my first week of turning it off completely (tried it many times before but lasted only two days) but it would be interesting to see it how much I could save. I have multi channels but they come included with my broadband subscription. Since my c...

Due to having a few friends who don't watch television or own one I've decided to follow their example for health reasons. It's not just the time spent watching television but the habitual addiction. Every now and then I mean to limit myself to one hour a day but find I can't get off the sofa. Also ...

Great expectations for those who refuse to watch

I'm in the process of giving up television. I've tried cutting down over the past few years' but after a temporary period got addicted again. This is the first week of not watching television and I'm considering getting rid of it. What has put me off in the past is the expectation that anyone who gi...

Re: Can't TV be good?

TV can bring families together. By all watching the same programme it is an opportunity to discuss and socialise with one and other. Television doesn't bring families together only spatially not mentally emotionally or spiritually. I was never allowed to speak to my mother while watching television...

Disabled people are expected to watch hours of television

This even true for those who have mental health problems even though television contributes to a variety of menta health issues such as anxiety, depression, low self esteem and paranoia. Without a television people start going out more, take up hobbies and exercise more. Unfortunately if somebody wi...

I grew up with the television on all the time in the home so used to spend as much time as possible when at home alone in my room. My mother would have control of the remote control and at the time I thought it was benign as 99% of the time only BBC One or Two was on as Channel Four didn't exist at ...

My first post came under 'Guest'

I registered today and then made my first post introducing my self in the 'White Dotters, where are you' section. I've gone back to edit as I didn't write as much as I wanted to. Now instead of 'Lemsip' appearing by the post 'Guest' has appeared and I cannot edit my post.

I've only travelled economy and find it difficult to concentrate on a film during the flight because usually they are crap except once when flying back from the US overnight. I'd rather listen to music or read while flying or better still talk to my neighbour.
